Corporate clothing from Schijvens Corporate Fashion is made from recycled cotton and recycled polyester. No new raw materials are used in this process. In fact, our customers' old clothing provides raw material for our new, circular clothing.
At Schijvens we are not only good for the environment, we also value good working conditions for the people who make our clothing. This is why we became a member of Fair Wear Foundation in 2010. Fair Wear Foundation is committed to improving working conditions in member companies' textile factories. 100% of our factories are audited by Fair Wear – and we have an audit score of 97 out of 100 points, which puts us in the Leader category.
Most garment industry workers are paid less than a living wage, so their income does not cover basic needs. To earn more, they often work overtime. Underpayment can also encourage child labour. Schijvens Corporate Fashion believes that the basic wage should be enough to cover living expenses. This newly defined wage level includes food, rent, healthcare, education, clothing, transport and savings. We have also determined garment cost price levels that are sufficient to cover a living wage. Schijvens Corporate Fashion continues to monitor these levels. If wage levels are sufficient, we cooperate with Fair Wear Foundation to check whether the factory does actually pay a living wage to its employees. If insufficient, we raise the cost price so that a living wage can be paid. More than half of our production is now at living wage level.
In the course of 2023, we will be taking the first steps in making the KLM collection more sustainable.
